NC Turnaround Principal
Mr. Childers is a North Carolina native who has lived in Union County since 1991. During this time he has served as a teacher and coach at Sun Valley High School (1991-1998), a teacher at Wesley Chapel Elementary (1998-1999). In 1999 he worked at East Union Middle School as an Assistant Principal for one year. Then he moved to Wingate Elementary where he continued to work as an Assistant Principal for four years (2000-2004). In August of 2004, Mr. Childers moved to Marvin Elementary as an Assistant Principal and in December 2004 he was named to serve as the Principal for Sandy Ridge Elementary school in Waxhaw. After six years at Sandy Ridge Elementary (2005-2011), Mr. Childers was named the new Principal at Marshville Elementary where he served for three years (2011 – 2014). He then moved to Walter Bickett Elementary for two years (2015-2016).
Mr. Childers is a graduate of Appalachian State University and Winthrop University. He was married to wife Kelly in 1990 and has a son, Colby who was born in 1997. Mr. Childers believes that all children can learn and is dedicated to providing the best possible environment for learning. Parents are welcomed at Antioch Elementary and Mr. Childers believes that the school/community relationship is essential to a child’s success.
